School Crossing Guards: Unsung Heroes!

For the communities that school crossing guards serve, they are essential workers, much like first responders or healthcare workers. Many have been doing it for years. When a guard cannot fill his post, only a police officer can take over.

“63-year-old crossing guard struck in Queens….. protecting the children from that exact kind of accident when she was struck from behind.” (Eyewitness News, Tuesday, September 26, 2023)

Twice a day, every day, they navigate complex traffic situations between impatient drivers and impulsive youngsters, while trying to appease them both and move traffic along safely and effectively.

While we warm up in our heated cars in sub-zero temperatures, they are out there, ensuring the safety of our children.

While we enjoy our cooling AC when it is sweltering hot outside, they are out there keeping our children safe.

We expect them to operate their post and allow us peace of mind.

Appreciative, thankful gestures aside, our crossing guards must know we drivers have their backs!
