One day, while walking on a sidewalk, he ran ahead. Anxiously, I called for him to stop. He did so, looking puzzled.
“Grandma,” he said, “you know I ALWAYS stop at the curb and wait for you.”
“I know you do, but the drivers don’t know that. And when they see you running on the sidewalk, they cannot and should not assume you would stop at the curb. What if you continue running into their lane? Drivers cannot take this chance, and they would immediately slam on the brakes, possibly causing a collision with other cars, and people could get seriously hurt.”
I could see his expression change as the message sunk in.
Now, Grandma can sleep a little better. Maybe.
